KOLKATA: The Mamata Banerjee government has a new chief at the helm of the city civic headquarters. It has removed Khalil Ahmed, who was the municipal commissioner for many years, at a time when super cyclone Amphan has ravaged the city and added to the woes of a locked down Kolkata.
The government has issued reshuffle orders for bureaucrats this evening. The most significant of them is the appointment of a new commissioner of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Binod Kumar, secretary, youth affairs, is the new commissioner.
The order comes at a time when people of Kolkata are out in the streets against disruption of water supply and electricity.
We don’t need prayers, people are saying, clamoring help from local administration with restoration of electricity, water supply, removal of fallen trees, two days after the cyclone hit Kolkata.
