Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Thursday that special buses will be run to enable people to immerse the ashes of their family members who lost their lives during the lockdown imposed due to the novel coronavirus crisis.

Ashok Gehlot said that he has asked officials to get in touch with the governments of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand for permission and other modalities to let passengers from Rajasthan perform the immersions.

Thousands of urns carrying ashes have been lying in cremation grounds in Rajasthan as kin of those who died during the lockdown could not take these for immersion to places like Haridwar and other places.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan had taken up the cause earlier and made arrangements for immersion in a few hundred cases.

Jaipur MP Ramcharan Bohra has been interacting with families who are waiting to immerse ashes (of their kin who died during the lockdown) in the holy water.

Vasudev Devnani, former minister and MLA from Ajmer, arranged a bus and received permission to take kin of deceased to Haridwar. He even arranged for travel, boarding, lodging, and facilities of sanitisers and masks for the people.

Thirty persons travelled to Haridwar on May 20 and returned to Pushkar on May 22 for a bath in Pushkar Sarovar.
