BJP wants to be mainstream party in Tamil Nadu: Nadda | India News


CHENNAI: The BJP wants to emerge as a mainstream party in Tamil Nadu, national president J P Nadda on Thursday. “We want the Kamalam (Thamarai) to bloom here,” Nadda said.
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reiterated that Tamil Nadu would play a major role in the development of the nation. “Cooperative federalism is working here. The schemes implemented here by Modi government’s is benefitting people,” Nadda said while speaking at the 51st anniversary of the Thuglak magazine at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai.
Criticising the Congress party for its stand on farmers’ issues, Nadda said the opposition had insisted on the farming reformation in their own manifesto. “But they lacked the political will and courage to take the decision to bring reformation They themselves wrote that APMC (Agricultural Produce Market Committee) has to go or needs changes. They mentioned that the Essential Commodities Act is an age-old law that needs to be amended. But they did not have the political will to make decisions,” he said.
He said PM Modi has the will and courage to take bold decisions. “But now they’re trying to politicise the issue and supporting the people who want to agitate,” he said and urged the people to support the party to grow in Tami Nadu.
Earlier, taking part at party’s Namma Ooru Pongal function in Maduravoyal on the outskirts of Chennai, Nadda said Modi took a political decision on enforcing the lockdown to save the 1.3 billion people from Covid-19 when developed countries that have the best medical facilities struggled.
He said “scientific development” is taking place in the BJP attracting people from various walks of life. “This is why people from different walks of the lives joining the BJP, and we should accommodate them,” he said.
Welcoming the new entrants in the party, Nadda said, “The cadre’s enthusiasm and involvement which I see here gave me a source of confidence that in coming times, it will be BJP.”
